The best part is that when women write stories about women being raped, they are often accused of being “man haters” and “feminazis.” I’ve been called both for writing a story about a woman who was raped. It’s like the rape of women is a topic that only men can address in stories, in order to be culturally “acceptable” and feasible for mass-market entertainment. It really makes me wonder if those rumors that Larsson’s partner really wrote the trilogy are true.
That’s the sad part - if it were a woman writing about the effect of rape and it was a commentary on that, it would be one thing. Instead it’s just another shortcut to characterization using violence to women.
